Mobile design and production studio, ubinow, has developed a mobile augmented reality platform called AR-Sports. The platform enables brands to connect with sports fans in a new and engaging way, via their event ticket using augmented reality.

The ‘ticket game’ is a rugby game designed to coincide with the Rugby World Cup which starts this week. Rugby fans who have an official ticket will find they are able to point their phone at the ticket to release an augmented reality rugby game. The game launches a rugby pitch ‘virtually’ over the ticket blending the real with the augmented world.

Players pick a country and kick to achieve as many conversions as possible, with each conversion becoming more difficult in terms of distance and wind. All points contribute to your nation’s leaderboard score which gives the game a social angle too.

An industry first, the concept works across any ticket for any event and will help brands connect with sports fans during events such as the Olympics in 2012.

Stefan Bardega, MD of ubinow says “We believe that sports marketing has yet to really harness the power of the mobile platform. Our vision is to change this through a series of innovative mobile products such as AR-Sports”.

Three, the mobile network, has appointed Ubinow, the mobile design and production agency led by MediaCom digital managing partner Stefan Bardega, to develop a “crowd-sourced” mobile app for “mums on the go”.

As part of Three’s ‘Mums on the Go’ campaign the mobile network’s social media team will be organising meetings with “mummy bloggers”, who they hope will help them come up with ideas for time-saving mobile apps. Three is working with celebrity mum and TV presenter Denise Van Outen and NCT members on the wider campaign, which aims to promote research from Three, which reveals parents can save 135 hours a year by using the internet while out and about.

The app ideas will be put to a public vote on Three’s Facebook page. The winning app will be designed and made by Ubinow and launched by the agency in partnership with Three and its network of “mummy bloggers” later this year. Ubinow was appointed to the campaign after a competitive pitch against undisclosed agencies.

Sarah Bolwell, social media manager, Three, said: “ubinow won this project thanks to their creative, design and production capabilities.”

Following the success of our first MCG event, we’re hosting another on Wednesday 3rd August.
